Let’s face it, pregnancy is not the most glamorous time for many women. Our bodies expand in places we didn’t even think it could, not to mention the tiredness, swollen ankles and ever changing hormones.
Let’s face it, pregnancy is not the most glamorous time for many women. Our bodies expand in places we didn’t even think it could, not to mention the tiredness, swollen ankles and ever changing hormones.
It’s a beautiful thing even though it doesn’t always feel that way, so having your photo taken is probably the last thing you feel like doing.
I am currently pregnant with my second child, I had a ‘bump shoot’ with my son Leo, however looking back, this time I wanted something different.
I stumbled across a wonderful bump, baby and beyond photographer based in Norfolk called Rebecca Durrant.
Her style of maternity images looked empowering, maternal but most of all flattering, so we set up a meeting to discuss my requirements.
Straight away we clicked and I felt Rebecca knew exactly what I was after.
For me personally, the hardest part of the discussion was deciding if I wanted to ‘bare all’. I knew it would be great for the photos but as I was not at my most body confident – did I really feel like being nude in front of a photographer I had never met? Well, to be honest it was no different than having a bikini wax, and once you’ve had one baby you kind of feel less precious about who you are naked in front of.
When it came to the session at Rebecca’s home studio it was as easy as our initial conversation. We went through some styles, chatted about body coverings and poses. I started off with a crop top and my knickers on. I felt this eased me in to that moment of whipping everything off!
She directed me every step of the way as Beyonce played in the background – it gave me an extra boost.
The main aspect of this shoot is that I felt entirely comfertable, in fact, at times, I completely forgot I was butt naked posing in front of someones camera.
Even though pregnancy can have its less-than-enjoyable moments, your body is doing an incredibly beautiful thing. You’ll never regret documenting this change with maternity photos.
Here are a few good reasons why every mama-to-be should schedule a maternity photo session.
You will end up missing your bump…
It won’t be at first, but as the months pass and your baby starts to crawl, you’ll scroll through your monthly pregnancy photos on your phone while absentmindedly rubbing your belly.
You may find yourself uttering those words you never thought you would: “I miss being pregnant.”
Having those keepsake photos will be priceless!
You’ll be shocked at how good you feel…
When you look back at these photos its not just about the beauty of a person, but the beauty of a bump. Dressing up in a way that accentuates your bump, putting on some makeup, and pampering yourself for a photography session may be just what the doctor ordered for a case of the pregnancy blues.
When you see your pictures after the shoot, you may be surprised at just how beautiful you look.
You can show as much or little as you want…
One of the popular trends these days in maternity photography involves flowing fabrics that tastefully cover parts of your body while revealing the rest. As you browse Instagram and look at some prospective portrait studios in your area, take screenshots of the photos that appeal to you.
You’ll have memories to cherish forever…
From the day your infant is placed in your arms, time starts to go by fast!
As your child grows, you will probably find yourself reminiscing about your pregnancy days and how quiet the house was.
Your children will enjoy seeing these pictures when they’re older, too. They tell a magical story!
